Opening dates- Saturday 6th May till Wednesday May 17th May 2017 at Rugby Art Gallery and Museum, Little Elborow Street, Rugby, CV21 3BZ. Opening times : Tuesday - Friday: 10am - 5pm, Saturday: 10am - 4pm
In 2010, the Malt Kiln Farm Shop, Stretton-under-Fosse, was approached by Terry Hartshorn, an artist resident in the village. Terry suggested the opening of a gallery in an area adjacent to the shop,s cafe.
The bright, airy space offered an excellent outlet for the work of several well establishes and new artists working in the local area and in the Warwickshire/Leicestershire border.
By 2016 the gallery was exhibiting work by more that 10 artists based in Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Northhant's. Construction of a gallery and cafe extension was underway; more artists were making contact request ion use of the exhibition space and the galleries' prospects were looking good. Then, in June 2016, the complex was struck by a disastrous and sicking blow in the snap of an arson attack.
Fire swept through the building, completely destroying the farm shop, cafe and the gallery. All artwork, easels, display boards and other equipment was destroyed in less than a couple of hours. A local business; a rare and vital community facility, local jobs and a huge expression of creative endeavour was lost in one senseless, wicked and violent act in one short and dark night.
Thankfully, the owners of Malt Kiln Farm Shop have proved to be resilient and are in the progress of re-building. This year the gallery will re-open under the name of "Art at the Farm" and a group of artist attached to the original gallery have proved that they too are undaunted.
Bouncing Back - is a collection of work, mostly produced since the fire, demonstrating that creativity will always shine through. This exhibition comprises work by artists; Terry Hartshorn, Janet Watson, Paul Percival, Jackie Ward, Dawn Russell and Malcolm Parnell. The work specks of a new beginning, new ideas and offers a view of an exciting future.
